Signs Someone Might Be A Victim of Financial Elder Abuse.
Financial exploitation of the elderly can be perpetrated by a stranger, a friend, caregiver(s), or even family members. Signs that someone might be a victim of financial elder abuse are:
- Unusual or unaccounted for activity in bank accounts, i.e. large or numerous withdrawals, attempts to withdraw from bank account
- Current bills remain unpaid, in spite of having a financial caretaker.
- Caretaker, friend, or family member asks for a secret loan. The fact that the loan must be secret is a possible indicator of lack of intent to repay.
- Changes are made to a will or power of attorney, in spite of unwillingness to make changes, or inability.
- Someone lacking food, clothing, or grooming items, despite being able to afford these items.
