Henrichsen Siegel civil rights client wins federal jury trial in Jacksonville, Florida
In 2012, Marvin Johnson was beaten in a cell by a Duval County corrections officer, while two other officers stood by and took no action to stop the assault. Mr. Johnson was punched multiple times by one officer after his repeated requests for medication in a dorm within the Duval County Pretrial Detention Facility. Other officers did not stop their colleague from carrying out the attack and ignored requests for medical assistance.
Attorney Neil Henrichsen argued in closing to the jury that the officers had violated Mr. Johnson’s right to protection from cruel and unusual punishment and the jury agreed, finding in favor of Mr. Johnson and awarding punitive damages against the officers. The four day jury trial in December 2015, ended in a liability finding by the jury against all of the officers involved in the attack.
